Sahib’s training workshops by Aquaponics Urban Guru’s are a wonderful way to learn and gain knowledge and the skills to successfully practice Aquaponics. They are taught by experienced Aquaponics gardeners and other professionals who are the “Gurus” in their field and who are willing to share their knowledge to empower you to grow your food locally and grow it naturally! They use simple language and will take their time to ensure that you understand and learn.

Materials Included: Course Workshop Outline – Basics of Aquaponics, building and operating small Aquaponics Hybrid Urban Growing Systems.

• Assembly of the “Nano”, the “Patio” and the “Zero Lot” Aquaponics Hybrid Urban Growing System
• Operational issues including planting and harvesting as well as future expansion
• Why things go wrong? Common reasons for the problem and the fix.
• Feed Hunger Now  and Wrap up of Workshop – Summary of what was covered during the day

Sustainable Urban Aquaponics – Introduction to the World of Aquaponics: Basics & Application

Aquaponics is the joint cultivation of fish and plants in a manmade re-circulating ecosystem that allows sustainable natural food growing without the use of harmful pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Our goal in these workshops is to empower you to grow your own food naturally, right in your own garden. Sahib’s training workshops by Aquaponics Urban Guru’s are a wonderful way to learn and gain knowledge and the skills to successfully practice Aquaponics. Experienced Aquaponics gardeners and other professionals teach them. They are “Gurus” in their field and are willing to share their knowledge to empower you to grow your food locally and grow it naturally! They use simple language and will take their time to ensure that you understand and learn.

Basics: Day 1

Classroom Session & Hands-on Field Session:

• Workshop Introduction, Concept and Purpose, What is Aquaponics and how does it work – the Nitrogen Cycle
• Types of Fish and water quality, pH levels, importance of oxygen in the Aquaponics system
• One Aquaponics growing method – Rafts using net pots
• Potting Material / Plant selection / seed starting / seedling transplanting / Pest control and health safety
• Assemble a small Aquaponics system – fish tank and raft growing bed, plumbing the pond and air pump and making use of gravity to your advantage. Building the rafts and drilling for net pots, planting seeds & seedlings.
• Wrap up of Day 1 of the Workshop – Questions & Answers.

Application: Day 2

Classroom Session & Hand-on Field Session:

• Recap of Day 1, More seed starting medias & methods / controlling water flow – bell siphons & timers
• Where can Aquaponics be used /Aquaponics “Gurus” around the world & Aquaponics Methods: Raft, NFT, Media-filled Systems, Verticals, Recirculating Wicking Beds & advantages / disadvantages, if any.
• What and how much do you want to grow / Introduction to Environmental Control and Greenhouses

• Add Media Bed and introduce timer for water pump– see both beds work in unison
• Introduction and tour of Sahib’s Aquaponics Research Farm: Identification of different growing methods and Visualization of Aquaponics at work in establishing a sustainable ECO system.

Our goal in these workshops is to empower you to grow your own food naturally, right in your own garden. Sahib will share his knowledge and use simple language taking time to explain the whole process so as to empower you to grow your food locally and grow it naturally! 

Who should attend?

Everyone!  

Whether you just discovered Aquaponics and are curious if you could use this method of growing in your own backyard garden, or are interested in community / urban gardening or larger commercial farming applications, this workshop should help you decide.

The workshop is divided into two segments – Classroom and Farm Tour. Classroom sessions will provide you with a basic knowledge of Aquaponics that will cover a broad range of topics including how Aquaponics works, what fish and plants can be successfully grown and do’s and don’ts to ensure success. The Farm Tour will allow you to visually see various Aquaponics food growing systems at work, see how Aquaponics creates a balanced ECO system and gain some “hands-on” experience in the different types of  hybrid Aquaponics system. You will also learn how simple Aquaponics is and what it takes to operate a system on a daily basis.

Sustainable Urban Aquaponics : Monthly Farm Tours

Sahib’s Aquaponics Research Farm

Sahib loves to share his knowledge and encourage everyone to learn. His goal is to empower you to grow food for yourself, your family, your community and your business. Grown locally and naturally without any harmful pesticides or chemical fertilizers. He thus offers Monthly Farm Tours of Sahib’s Aquaponics Research Farm for a nominal donation of $10.00 per individual. We have to cover our expenses hence the charge.

Monthly Farm tours are held the first Saturday of every month starting at 10:00am and last for about one and half hour.  As Sahib’s Aquaponics Research Farm is located in a small facility, you will need to register as we try to limit our farm visitors to 12 per tour so as to be able to give you personal attention. Small or large groups are welcome and we encourage field trips for all class sizes. Please plan to have any groups with young children or those with special needs, be chaperoned.

We will have some “Live” plants and produce for purchase reasonable prices. Grown locally and naturally, without any harmful herbicides or chemical fertilizers. This is actually better than organic produce as we cannot use many of the items used in organics. Doing so would kill our fish! 

Sahib also offers farm tours at other times by appointment. If you would like a personal tour of Sahib’s Aquaponics Research Farm during regular business hours (Monday – Friday) or a weekend day, there is a base charge of $30.00 for the first guest and $20.00 for each additional person. Sahib unfortunately has to charge such fees during regular business hours or weekends as he does have other business interests to attend.
